Teacher, blogger and creator of the Chakra Cards, this website has something for everyone to feel amazing.
It's so pervasive and enticing to get onto a newsfeed and argue with complete strangers - and what do we get out of it? The ego gets fed. It gets a thrill, a sense of being important and having a purpose in the world and of having a voice.
I've been contemplating how and why we as a species are in this predicament where our very existence is under threat from our own actions and increasingly, inactions. Today, as I was packing my books for our upcoming move, I flicked through Wayne W. Dyer's book "Your Sacred Self". As always, when you flick open a page, you get exactly what you need at the right time. It said: "Causing fear is a tactic of the ego...
"...whether it be your own ego or the world's ego. The world's ego is a reflection of individual ego power and the amount of fear that is active. Fear is present when we do not know we are a part of God's divine design. Ego causes us to transmit fear energy instead of love energy. This is a part of the divine plan we've all signed on for during our brief visit in now-here." (1995, p.221)
It was a moment of revelation for me, a reminder of how I used to see the world before I got sucked into the vortex of fear. It's so pervasive and enticing to get onto a newsfeed and argue with complete strangers - and what do we get out of it? The ego gets fed. It gets a thrill, a sense of being important in the world and of having a voice. Stepping back from this, it appears that when we engage in these pointless arguments, we all projecting feelings of unimportance, feeling unheard and bored and probably more importantly - lacking a purpose or direction.
We need to stop feeding the ego - it's divisive and toxic - and it is ultimately destroying the fabric of the goodness of humanity, one individual at a time. There is so much toxicity out there online, that it's spilling out into the "real" world with surges in hate crimes amongst other things across the globe. See this article for evidence. Stepping back from all of this, we can see that Wayne W. Dyer is correct - it's about our ego and more importantly, our disconnection from ourselves.
While our ego is busy engaging in the petty dramas existing online (and offline), what's happening to us? We are neglecting ourselves - our inner journey, our spiritual growth and reason for being. We are letting our ego dominate our lives and worldview.
Now, a balanced ego is healthy - don't get me wrong - we do need some sense of "I" to exist in this material space; the Earth experience. It appears to be becoming so unhealthily unbalanced that it seems an inevitable crash will happen. It feels like this neglect of our inner being, of our inner selves is preventing us from reaching the heights of our potential and life experience. And as a result, the Earth and all of society is being prevented by its full expression of self by feeding off the power trip of the ego - both individually and collectively.
Of course, this is my experience, and your ego might be going - "this chick is full of sh*t" and that's your prerogative, but this is my truth and I can see how I have been forgetting about my love energy and focusing on the pervading fears of the collective consciousness.
So, how do I shift this? How do WE shift this energy of fear to energy of love?
1. Awareness is the key. We need to be aware of when we are operating from a love or fear space. It seems such an easy thing in theory, but the reality of social media is that is addictive and life isn't as simple as being able to be fully present at all times. But having an awareness of our decisions and what's driving us is the start.
2. Get off social media. If you do have to use it - and in some way we are all a bit bound to it now - count to 30 before you respond to another person's post. If you do respond, respond from a place of unconditional love. How they react to your love is their crap. And if you do share, share things which bring more love, not more fear. I personally find this hard, because I have trust issues (but that's another story).
3. Do the inner work. There is not ONE single person alive on Earth today who has reached their full potential. Even my grandmother - before she died in her 80s - said she still had so much spiritual work to do. Return to the self. Come back into you. Every time we engage in the fear, we are projecting our energy outwards. What we need to do is to shift it inwards. We need to learn to love our light and our darkness both within and out of us. And completely embody the world we want, not what we don't want.
